The climbing area of Rodellar offers more than 400 routes in 35 sectors of all orientations.
All the sectors are easily accessible by foot, the closest is three minutes from Kalandraka.
The sectors are spread over the canyon of the river Mascun and two of its side valleys.
The river forms everywhere beautiful plunge pools, where you can bath and swim, often right beneath the climbing-sector.
Rock
The rock is limestone. Rodellar is mainly known for its huge overhangs and caves with lots of big tufas. Most of the routes are long, athletic and spectacular.
There are as well lots of small caves and roofs with short and explosive climbing, as well as vertical crags with technical climbs of up to 40 meters and more.
And there are some great bouldering spots, especially in the small caves, but if you are not interested at all in climbing with rope, there are better places to go to than Rodellar.
Difficulty
Most of the routes in Rodellar are in the 7th and 8th french grade, up to 9a+, but there are as well some very nice 6b’s and 6c’s spread over the different sectors. Below that grade, there is not much.
Best Season
The best seasons to climb in Rodellar are spring and autumn, but you can climb as well very good in summer and winter.
In summer the temperatures are quite high, so it’s the time for the sectors in the shade and beautiful days of alternating climbing and swimming.
And in summer are the best parties in the village. In winter the tufas can be wet, but most of the time they are dry.
And if not, there are still enough wonderfull routes that never get wet, to climb for a long time.
